More bloggery and stattery

Yesterday Thomas mentioned in the course of his 24 hours post the Technorati authority stats:

9:22pm – Check my Technorati profile and blog rating. This blog, among the registered blogs at Technorati, is now ranked 150,747. Yesterday, at around the same time, it was 135,000-something. This fall is due to the blog losing ‘authority’ – links from other blogs. It was at 55 ‘authority’ yesterday; now it’s only at 51. Out of interest, I go looking for what Ninglun’s Gateway has (962,510/ 8 ‘authority’), New Lines from a Floating Life (294,012/ 28 ‘authority’) and then Personal Reflections, Jim Belshaw’s blog, (345,597/ 24 ‘authority’)…

So I thought I would look at Google rank. 5/10 for Thomas; same for New Lines, but 6/10 for Oz Politics. English/ESL is 5; so is Old Lines. Ninglun on Blogspot gets 4. This Gateway scores 0/10! Too new perhaps. Same with Floating Life Sans Words. Jim Belshaw’s Personal Reflections scores 4.

After that I then uninstalled Google Toolbar again; I had forgotten how it fouls up IE7 on my computer…  What those ranks mean you may see here, if you’re lucky; as soon as I see things like:

So, the equation is as follows:

where p1,p2,…,pN are the pages under consideration, M(pi) is the set of pages that link to pi, L(pj) is the number of outbound links on page pj, and N is the total number of pages…

…I just give in to blank incomprehension, a feeling I honed in many a General Maths class. But it must mean something to someone. ;)

 

Next day

As the month’s end approaches, I have had a look at the WordPress stats for each WP blog.

New Lines from a Floating Life is on 2,600+ and on track to beat the record 2,726 of January 2008. 45 posts so far this month.

OzPolitics is around 3,800. The record there is 5,209 in election month November 2007. No way that will be surpassed. In fact, this month may be short of last month’s 4,708. 17 posts so far this month.

English/ESL remains the top performer with around 10,100 so far, already pushing towards 1,000 better than last month. November 2007’s record 11,520 seems safe though. 7 posts so far this month.

Old Lines from a Floating Life is on 5,500, slightly galling as there are no new posts there, but November 2007’s 8,998 remains the pinnacle. This blog has attracted 5,000+ every month this year so far.

The Gateway is on 750; last month (its first) achieved 627. Still, to judge by referrals on New Lines especially, more readers are using the Gateway as I had hoped, to get an overview of the day’s activity and then to choose what they wish to read. 36 posts so far this month.

Sans Words on 333 since 11 March is not doing too badly. 29 posts so far this month.

Sitemeter attributes 831 page views to Ninglun on Blogspot; last month there were 1,022. On current averages another 100 may be added to this month’s total. 9 posts so far this month.
