Local paper growing in range and interest
That is my first thought on “leafing” through the online PDF version of the April South Sydney Herald, and not just because I have a short letter in it.
There are many good stories to interest Redfern/Surry Hills/Inner Sydney residents, or anyone outside who is curious. The arts and reviews section is also growing in size and quality. In fact the whole thing is a really good read! I will feel very much that I am doing a favour to those whose letter boxes I stuff a copy into later in the week. In fact a little while back when delivering the March edition I was stopped by someone and quizzed about whether I had missed a certain street; fortunately I could say I had done that street ten minutes earlier.
And it doesn’t exist to sell real estate or “personal services”, unlike so many other local rags. It really is about news and community, and it is independent and broad in content. And colourful too nowadays.

Yes, it is a service provided by South Sydney Uniting Church; but don’t think “church paper”. Not what it is about. Free and uncommercial to readers in the area.
