Benjamin Solah’s Blog — Thousands turn out to oppose Howard’s police state.

The “thousands” refers to Australia as a whole, I suppose, as I was myself at the Sydney Rally in Belmore Park for a while on Saturday, and I would have said hundreds there. This is not to say I do not support what Benjamin says in this entry: I do support it. It is almost inescapable that we are being played with — again! — by John “Kiddies Overboard!” Howard and his friends; after all, the panic button worked so well before, why not now?

Four of us were discussing it at the Midnight Shift yesterday afternoon: two taking the “Howard is manipulating the situation” view, and two opposed. It was at least a civilised discussion. I thought the two who did not feel their liberties were threatened were, to say the least, naive.
