Java Platform, Standard Edition 6 Release

12 Jul

Does everyone find Java somewhat annoying, or am I the only one?  This morning my Secunia PSI warned me that Java needed patching because it was now insecure, so I dutifully downloaded the latest, only to find it also gave me a desktop link to Open Office, which is fine except 1) I don’t want it and 2) I can’t recall being asked if I did. The other thing is that on rechecking Secunia I discovered that, as usual, the Java Update did not remove the old insecure version. Why? Why should I have to go and do that manually?

Then Java leaves a mess behind anyway, as CCleaner quickly shows…

Not good enough.

    Oh Sun…

You should have tried setting up the Java SDK on early AMD64 Linux distributions. That could get annoying, especially if you had to pinch a release from a different distro.
