I’m back!

11 Sep

What has been going on you may read on the temporary home I have had at Journalspace. The Gateway is still suspended, however. I am not sure why, but will probably just close it, as soon as I can. Adjust your bookmarks to come to this blog.

What a saga.

To catch up

There are two entries on Journalspace that I commend to you. Today I wrote The Coming Costello memoirs, and the day before yesterday I posted one of the “lost” entries which the charmer had rewritten for me — Entry for 7 September 2008.

How I feel about my hacker

Well, you can imagine! However, anger and contempt have been replaced by pity. See also Welcome back! on Blogspot, which I reopened yesterday.

What I have done

I have replaced passwords all over the shop, some of the new ones being so complex I can’t even remember them! I have also configured all my browsers not to remember them either. I am a bit nervous about Unwired (my wireless isp) but am assured it is secure enough, but I am avoiding using Outlook Express as there is a more secure equivalent online, and I am avoiding for the time being using Live Writer, which stores passwords. It has to. (Wrong!*) That is a real nuisance and may make some functions difficult.

My computer has been scanned by every device known, just about, and presents as secure. I have added a thing or two.

Effect on stats

According to Sitemeter the Floating Life sites — Journalspace is counted but not Blogspot — did rather well in the last few days! 645 page views on Monday, 664 on Tuesday, 778 on Wednesday, and 487 so far today. On Floating Life itself — this blog — WordPress reports 397 views on Monday, 386 on Tuesday, 432 on Wednesday, and 139 so far today — that being since 10am and not completing until 10am tomorrow. So that side of things I can’t complain about. 🙂

* I have configured Live Writer not to remember passwords. 🙂 That makes a big difference to me.

Welcome back, Neil. Let’s hope the democracy-phobic hacker is satisfied with his handiwork and leaves you alone.

Thanks, AV. You never know, but as I mention on the Aussie Bloggers Forum, I may have been able to provide enough evidence to WordPress to trace the hack to its source. Let’s hope so.

I’m thinking of Mr Kotter at the moment. I think your return would be a better use of his theme song, than say Hungry Jacks commercials of the 80s/90s.
