I heard about Ms. Travers’ death on NPR (America’s BBC radio) and they played PP&M’s version of ‘Kumbaya’. Except they didn’t sing ‘Kumbaya, my Lord’. The left the Lord out of the song entirely. Is that they way you remember them singing it, without ‘The Lord’, Neil? I’m wondering if maybe NPR was cleaning God out of the song.

It seems weird that they would, but it also seems weird that Peter Paul and Mary would scrub God from a song. They were before my time though, and I never understood the kids of the sixties. Still, I’d love to hear your opinion.

Really? I associate the song more with Joan Baez — and with our own Aussie Peter Paul and Mary, The Seekers.
