Not Tehran

20 Nov

I took this a couple of days back in Chalmers Street Surry Hills and posted it on the photo blog.  The occasion: a group of Year 12 students hurrying to an HSC study day.

I like the pic anyway, but thought it a nice follow-up to yesterday’s post here.

I could have guessed that you’d like this pic. It’s very misogynistic. It makes me sad. These poor women’s invisible prison cells are not that invisible at all. Is that guy their chaperon?

Interesting reading, Kevin. The guy is a passer-by. The girls are from an Islamic high school in Sydney and that is their school uniform.

I was hoping he wasn’t with them, but was concerned that my favorite other nation had gone the way of:

    Saudi Arabia
    Iran
    Yemen
    Afghanistan
    Pakistan
    Maylay
    England
    Netherlands
    France
    Belgium
    Indonesia etc

where they don’t allow muslim women of any age to be outside unescorted by a man. FWIW, I hope you guys stand against that crap forever. But I have to be honest and don’t think you will. Sadly, neither will we :(.

Their teacher (out of shot and female) was telling them to hurry. They had been to the shops buying food at lunchtime.

At the risk of appearing ignorant, where’s Maylay?!

Malasia. Sry. A friend from there calls it that, and it rubbed off on me.

I thought you meant Malaysia but I just wanted to check. Urban Dictionary says Maylay means “love” in some context or other, for anyone that’s interested.
